Gorman described the object as a small, bright white light rather than a clearly visible solid craft. According to later accounts of his report, he estimated it as a round light only several inches across when viewed from his position. Gorman said the object appeared to approach him head-on on more than one occasion, forcing him to dive away, before later climbing rapidly out of reach. Investigators also considered the possibility that Gorman later mistook the planet Jupiter for the same object after the balloon was no longer involved.
