The Night in the California Forest
Shrum was hunting with friends near Cisco Grove in Placer County, California, when he became separated from the group after dark. According to later accounts preserved by UFO investigators, he decided to spend the night in a tree rather than risk travelling through unfamiliar terrain in darkness. While there, he saw a moving white light at low altitude. Initially believing it might be a helicopter or a rescue attempt, he descended and attempted to signal it.
