The medical claims surrounding the Antônio Villas-Boas abduction case are among the main reasons the story has remained influential. Supporters of the case point to the examination by Brazilian physician Olavo T. Fontes in early 1958, which recorded skin lesions and other symptoms that Villas-Boas associated with his alleged encounter.
